Tokyo Day Trip

We spent our entire vacation in and around Osaka and Kyoto, but made a day trip into Tokyo via bullet train for rice balls at Sakura Sabou Tea Salon, a special little shop that Caroline and Courtney discovered on a previous trip to Japan.

It is so cute and run by the nicest lady. She spoke with us in English and recommended delicious varieties of rice balls, served with soup, sides, and tea. Her shop was decorated with cats, which we love, and local items for sale. We left with lovely fans and coasters as a reminder of our visit.

Then we walked around the neighborhood and had dessert in a character café, which is a very popular concept in Japan. This café was for Cinnamoroll, a Sanrio figure. We each have a signature Sanrio character in addition to Hello Kitty, whom we all love! Mine is Cinnamoroll, Caroline’s is Pompompurin, and Courtney’s is Kuromi.

At the end of the day, Caroline and I took a bullet train back to Osaka (and caught a glimpse of Mt. Fuji) and Courtney went on to the airport to return home for work. Courtney’s flight was on schedule and we spent the evening and next day hunkered down during Typhoon Lan. We weren’t too worried because we live in a hurricane zone, and only noticed a few wind gusts and heavy rain. The storm gave us a chance for much needed rest in the middle of our trip!
